An ancient Indian proverb states that every weakness is a strength overlooked.

To say it another way, for everything that masters us or enslaves us, every circumstance, every situation, we have the potential and the opportunity to turn those tides and put those masters on leashes. We have the power to become their masters.

One young man heard this maxim and wondered if it could be true of his battle with weight loss. It gave him the courage he needed to study, to educate himself, to summon his willpower and lose well over one hundred pounds. He now educates others on health and fitness.

The challenges around us are not our masters. They are our opportunities.

Christ said it this way in Matthew 5:

You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine among all people so they may see your good deeds and praise your father in Heaven.

Just take the first line of that –you are the light of the world.

Do you believe that right now?

Do you believe that nothing outshines you?

Do you believe right now that there is nothing brighter than you, nothing stronger, nothing more overpowering than the light inside of you?

Because that’s the source of your brightness. It isn’t you. It’s He that is within you.

You were made to shine that light.

So let it shine.

Let it shine among all people so they may see your good deeds and praise your father in Heaven.

Don’t complain when the darkness around you becomes very, very dark. Instead, thank God for the opportunity to use your light to shine even brighter. Thank Him for the opportunity to get to bring Him praise.

(Because it isn’t about you- it’s all about Him.)

Then, keep shining.
